Objective

Students will acquire knowledge of the concept and application of health economics based on the implementation of principles and methods of economics in planning and management of healthcare system and macroeconomic significance of health systems.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of economics.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students are able to demonstrate that they know and understand the role of health economics and health management systems, world practices and development trends, as well as methods of economic analysis of health policy systems. They are able to understand the performance indicators of the healthcare system, price formation in the healthcare sector, health financing, insurance and payment systems and their interaction with the goals of the health systems. Students are able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of economic analysis techniques in determining and stimulating the cost-effectiveness of healthcare services.

Skills

1.Doctoral students are able to assess independently economic aspects of health systems, resource constraints, efficiency, productivity, etc.; to apply a border analysis in planning healthcare services and to analyse demand factors in health care. Doctoral students are able to interpret the nature of state regulation and its impact on the availability of healthcare services, analyse the formation of the market of healthcare services, the limited competition and the factors influencing the competition.

Competence

1.Doctoral students are able to carry out an independent, critical analysis and apply economic methods in management and planning of healthcare systems, to evaluate economic parameters of the health system and to assess the functioning of the healthcare financing system and the nature and structure of health insurance system.
