Objective

To provide information about infectious diseases and special epidemiology to the extent necessary for a dentist.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, biology, histology, microbiology, virology, immunology, biochemistry, biology, parasitology, physiology, pathologic physiology, pathologic anatomy, propaedeutic, pharmacology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students will be able to classify infectious diseases by etiological, epidemiological, clinical characteristics, to formulate diagnostic methods necessary for verification of infectious diseases, to analyse test results and to define the amount of required individual and public health care in the context of dentistry.

Skills

The students will be able to recognize a certain symptom of the disease and obtain additional data of anamnesis (life, disease, epidemiological data) from the patient and data of laboratory investigation; to evaluate symptoms, signs and test results that would require attention of a physician – specialist; to implement necessary preventive measures.

Competence

To cooperate on the professional level with colleagues and medical professionals; to improve own competence to study in a group or independently; to improve understanding of a healthy life style and public health.
