Objective

Deepen the understanding of processes and concepts of general and inorganic chemistry as well as strengthen and further the knowledge of the composition and structure of inorganic elements and compounds, their diversity, and their use in the pharmaceutical industry.

Prerequisites

Chemistry, natural sciences, mathematics, biology and physics within the secondary school curriculum.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of the successful study course, the student will be able to:
formulate and explain concepts of general and inorganic chemistry, regularities and basic processes (oxidation-reduction reactions, formation and degradation of complex compounds, salt hydrolysis, etc.); appropriate application of concepts and terminology of general and inorganic chemistry; describe the quantitative and qualitative relationship between inorganic compounds; justify and explain the characteristics and uses of groups of inorganic elements and their characteristic compounds in pharmacy and medicine.

Skills

1.As a result of the successful study course, the student will be able to: analyse and determine possible directions of chemical processes and predict the outcomes of chemical reactions; be able to draw up equations for inorganic chemistry; develop the skills to address the challenges of situations; use safe working methods in the laboratory; to work independently with inorganic chemistry laboratory equipment, to conduct laboratory work.

Competence

1.As a result of the successful study course, the student will be able to: apply the acquired knowledge of the diverse processes of general and inorganic chemistry and mechanisms for the conduct of chemical reactions; assess these processes and their use; draw conclusions on the outcome of chemical processes; analyse the impact of different factors on the basic processes of general chemistry; assess the role of chemical elements and different compounds in modern pharmacy and human physiology and demonstrate responsible decision-making.
