Objective

To prepare medical residents in the speciality of the laboratory doctor for work in laboratories based on laws binding upon medical laboratories and the requirements of ISO standards. Medical resident’s understanding about laboratory work organisation is based on organisation and functioning of individual laboratory stages (pre-examination, examination and post-examination), their interaction and the need for constant supervision of the system and prevention of any disturbing factors in a timely manner.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Laboratory work organisation principles, which are based on laws of the Republic of Latvia and Europe. Observation of requirements with regard to patient’s welfare, environmental protection, personnel safety and observation of ethical standards.

Skills

1.To organise and conduct testing of biomaterials according to the quality system;
to evaluate accuracy of results, to organise and perform corrective actions in case of erroneous results.

Competence

1.Medical laboratory work organisation, including observation of the biological safety regime, establishment and maintenance of a laboratory quality system, significance and observation of regulatory enactments in a medical laboratory.
