Objective

To improve students’ knowledge and practical skills in the establishment of professional relationships and conversation in social work with different groups of clients. To build understanding of professional communication and art of reasoning to bypass client’s resistance.
To obtain knowledge of motivational interviewing, to create and develop skills for the use of motivational conversations in practice in work with clients. To identify key aspects in individual counselling and interaction with the group in the process of behavioural change. To promote students’ understanding of the basic principles of professional relationships. To provide students with the opportunity to promote communication management abilities and skills in practical training.

Communication psychology; group psychology

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students know the approaches of communication psychology and the possibilities of using them in leading a conversation. Understand the concepts of professional contact, reasoning, professional relationships and their specifics in the social care and social rehabilitation environment.

Skills

Students can reason their opinions, use communication techniques to lead a conversation, as well as listen professionally.

Competence

Students are competent to integrate guidelines for theoretical concepts of communication psychology into the practical process of conversation and establishment of professional relationships.
