Objective

To promote the knowledge and practical skills, competencies in the management of physiological pregnancy.

Prerequisites

Preliminary knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathological physiology and pharmacology is required.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of the completion of study course the students are able to report on the main quality indices of the antenatal care, have gained understanding on the pregnancy process and fetus development, are able to describe normal pregnancy process, characterize the physiological changes in the process of pregnancy, know the identification of risk factors, significance of perinatal diagnostics and invasive methods of diagnostics, are able to explain the US importance in monitoring of physiological pregnancy, and understand the role of midwife in the management of physiological pregnancy.

Skills

As a result of the completion of study course, the students will be able to diagnose the pregnancy practically, to refer a pregnant woman to medical tests and explain the test results during the antenatal care and in case of physiological pregnancy, to make surveillance of physiological pregnancy (the care of pregnant women according to regulations of Cabinet of Ministers), to be able to identify risk factors in order to promote the quality of maternal and child's health.

Competence

The students are capable to carry out the basic antenatal care – to diagnose pregnancy practically, refer to the required tests, ensure optimal management of pregnancy, to refer to the necessary clinical procedures.
