Physiotherapy in Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, Geriatrics (REK_060)
About Study Course
Objective
To acquaint with the role of physiotherapy technologies in the treatment of internal diseases, the reduction of disease risks and recurrence, the strengthening of physical health, the primary and secondary prevention of diseases, the improvement of the body’s functional abilities in case of chronic diseases and functional impairments cause by them, as well as the improvement of quality of life.
Prerequisites
In anatomy, physiology, pathological physiology and internal diseases.
Learning outcomes
1.Students will gain evidence-based knowledge of the normal and pathological functions of internal diseases, rheumatology and geriatrics, their assessment principles and physiotherapeutic treatments, know the course of the examination, interpret the results for the patient/person, set short - and long-term treatment goals, choose appropriate physiotherapy techniques and methods, provide recommendations for lifestyle changes.
1.The student will be able to perform clinical and functional examination of the patient, study of documentation, collection of a history, determination of specific tests – pulse and respiratory frequency, blood pressure, vital capacity, chest excursions, respiratory type, pain, active mobility, edema, etc., and determination of functional tests – 6 minutes of walking test, mobility test, fall risk, etc., determination of disease risks, interpretation of the data obtained by setting and formulating the main problem, objectives, application of physiotherapy techniques appropriate and effective to the patient.
1.Ability to purposefully obtain relevant information from the patient or authorised person and medical documentation, to apply scientifically sound, targeted and appropriate methods of assessment of physiotherapy, to perform structured and targeted physiotherapeutic examination of the patient at the level of functions and structures, activities and participation, as well as to assess contextual factors, to identify “red flags” and contraindications for treatment of physiotherapy, to formulate the main problem of the physiotherapist based on interpretation of the results of the assessment carried out by synthesising general and professional knowledge, plan an appropriate physiotherapy treatment program based on specific, measurable, time-bound, realistic goals, taking into account the individual choices and beliefs of the patient, to choose appropriate evidence-based medical technologies in physiotherapeutic treatment planning tailored to the individual needs of the patient.
