Objective

To develop the professional development of senior sports coaches and health sports specialists based on modern scientific research in sports and training theory, movement biomechanics, physiology, anatomy, pedagogy, psychology, Pilates method, within the framework of this course of study, to contribute to the ability to maintain, improve and enhance the quality of life of people of all ages in a professional and socially responsible manner, through the application of Pilates functional tests, Pilates machines and small equipment, the principles of designing and conducting Pilates training programmes.

Prerequisites

Sports science, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, basic physiotherapy, sports medicine, pedagogy, psychology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1. Understands the principles of conducting individual classes using all Pilates machines and small equipment;
2. Know the main Pilates exercises that can be performed on Pilates machines and small equipment, their objectives, effects, contraindications, performance techniques, the most effective ways of delivery and verbal, tactical correction techniques.

Skills

1. Learners take a medical history and information about the client's goals for the session and perform tests to identify the client's functional abilities (mobility and stability segments, correct movement stereotype);
2. Analyse the results of the collected medical history and functional tests and design a training programme appropriate to the client's goals and needs, using Pilates machines and small equipment, based on theories of training, pedagogy, movement biomechanics, physiology, anatomy, biochemistry and sports medicine (the latest research);
3. Continuously apply the acquired knowledge on the design and implementation of Pilates training and small equipment in professional work and research, critically evaluate new developments in the field and in the Pilates method, independently solve client problems and reasonably discuss issues in the field of sport and the Pilates method with specialists and non-specialists (including clients).

Competence

1. Understands the application of Pilates on machines and small equipment and integrates Pilates into the client's training programme (self-directed or in collaboration with another trainer);
2. Design and lead Pilates programmes appropriate to health, fitness and goals, using Pilates machines and Pilates small equipment;
3. Be able to diagnose the client's movement stereotypes within the competence of the trainer, design programmes that create effective movement stereotypes for the client.
4. Correct the movement stereotype using the method learned;
5. Apply principles based on motor control and recent research on movement (anatomy, physiology, movement biomechanics, arthrokinematics, psychology, pedagogy, sport and training theory);
6. Motivates the client using positive motivational strategies.
