About Study Course
Objective
To raise awareness of possibilities for the public dental care. To create a positive, professional attitude to promation of general and oral health. To raise awareness of planning and development of different oral health promotion and education programmes in regions and cities for different population age groups.
Prerequisites
Biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, histology, dental anatomy.
Learning outcomes
1.Upon completion of the course, the student will have knowledge of principles of primary health care, society and oral health (common risk factor approach), principles and models of oral health care organisation in Europe and Latvia, principles of oral health promotion, education and accessibility in improving oral health, principles of dental care for people of all ages, planning of dental care in the city and district.
1.To evaluate basic principles of health promotion and education, to understand and be able to suggest preventive programmes and strategies opposite to treatment regimen in dentistry, to develop critical attitude to evaluation of a dentist's own work, to assess necessities of an individual preventive and dental care agreeing them with needs of all society.
1.To evaluate basic principles of health promotion and education. Ability to educate dental patients (in all age groups) and to order them preventive care on a primary oral health care level. Ability to take part in the process of planning, working out and introducing different oral health promoting programmes in different age groups.
