Determination of Body Composition (DEXA or Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry)
DEXA body composition analysis is the gold standard for determining muscle, fat, and bone mass and distribution throughout your body. The scan provides a detailed picture of your body structure, which helps objectively assess how well your current nutrition and training program are working. Using these results, nutrition and exercise strategies can be adjusted to support your body composition goals.
- Details
Procedure
During the examination, you will lie on a special table while the DEXA device performs a scan using very low-intensity X-ray radiation. The procedure is fast, completely painless, and takes approximately 15 minutes, including preparation.
What you will gain
- Fat mass and distribution (total, regional, Android/Gynoid ratio, and visceral fat)
Both total body fat and its localization are measured, including the amount of internal (visceral) fat, which is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. - Assessment of lean (muscle) mass
Shows total muscle mass as well as muscle mass in specific body regions, which is important for improving athletic performance, metabolism, and assessing the risk of sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass). - Total bone mineral density
Provides a general overview of bone health and allows tracking changes over time (not intended for medical diagnosis of osteoporosis).
Who this examination is recommended for
For preventive purposes, the examination is suitable for anyone who wants to learn about their body composition, but it is especially recommended for:
- Athletes and physically active individuals, to evaluate their training process
- People undergoing weight loss or weight gain, to monitor changes in body composition
- Seniors and women during menopause, to assess muscle mass and overall bone density
Preparation for the examination
To ensure maximum accuracy of the results, please follow these guidelines:
- Arrive on an empty stomach. Eating or drinking immediately before the test can alter hydration levels, which may cause inaccuracies in measurements (especially in soft tissue analysis)
- Avoid alcohol for at least 12 hours before the test, as it promotes dehydration
Physical activity
- Refrain from intense physical activity for at least 12 hours before the examination
- Exercise depletes muscle energy (glycogen) stores, which may falsely indicate reduced muscle mass
Clothing
- Choose light, loose, and comfortable clothing. Tight clothing can compress soft tissues and affect the results
- Clothing must be free of metal parts (zippers, buttons, buckles, or bra underwires). Metal blocks X-rays and distorts the image
This examination is prohibited during pregnancy. If there is even the slightest possibility that you may be pregnant, you must inform the staff before the procedure begins.Price
- 50.00 Eur (excluding VAT)
- 60.50 EUR (with VAT)
- Fat mass and distribution (total, regional, Android/Gynoid ratio, and visceral fat)
Osteodensitometry (DEXA or Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry)
Osteodensitometry, or bone density measurement, is an accurate and safe diagnostic method for determining bone mineral density. It helps detect a decrease in bone mass (osteopenia) and osteoporosis at an early stage. The examination allows for an objective assessment of bone strength, fracture risk, and monitoring changes in bone density over time.
- Details
How the examination is performed
During the examination, you will lie on a special table while the DEXA device performs a scan using very low-intensity X-ray radiation (usually the hip and/or spine and/or forearm). The procedure is quick, completely painless, and takes approximately 15 minutes, including preparation.
What you will receive
- Accurate bone mineral density (BMD) measurement
You will receive the examination results with an explanation of the T-score and Z-score: - The T-score compares your bone density to a healthy young adult (standard);
- The Z-score compares it to the average values for your age and sex;
- Fracture risk assessment.
The examination allows an objective evaluation of risk - the lower the bone density, the higher the likelihood of osteoporosis and fractures in the future
Who this examination is recommended for
The examination is suitable for anyone who wants to ensure good bone health, but it is especially recommended for:
- People at increased risk of fractures include those with:
- Genetic predisposition (family history of osteoporosis);
- Nutritional deficiencies, such as long-term vitamin D and calcium deficiency;
- Use of certain medications, for example long-term glucocorticoid therapy, which can weaken bones;
- Warning signs, such as a decrease in height (more than 3–4 cm) or bone fractures resulting from minor trauma.
- Women during and after menopause, and men over the age of 50.
This examination is prohibited during pregnancy. If there is even the slightest possibility that you may be pregnant, please inform the staff before the procedure begins.For the clinical diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis, osteodensitometry must be performed in two anatomical regions (usually the hip and spine; if scanning one of these areas is not possible, the forearm is scanned instead).
- Osteodensitometry (1 position) – lumbar spine
- Osteodensitometry (1 position) – one hip joint
- Osteodensitometry (1 position) – one forearm
