The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Department of Human Physiology and Biochemistry is organising a seminar, "Comparison of metabolic benefits between bariatric surgery, medicine, and exercise", on Tuesday, 7 November at 16:30 in Auditorium 1 at the RSU Main Building.

Obesity is a complex and pervasive health issue that affects millions of people worldwide, contributing to a range of physical and mental health challenges. Bariatric surgery has emerged as a transformative intervention, offering hope and improved quality of life to those struggling with severe obesity.

In this seminar, we will delve into the multifaceted aspects of bariatric surgery, exploring its mechanisms, long-term outcomes, the role it plays in enhancing overall health and well-being, and possible risks. Additional treatment options as exercise and diet through the lens of head-to-head studies and single-intervention studies will be evaluated and discussed.

The seminar will take place in English.
