RSU LSPA

A new phase of development has begun at the Rīga Stradiņš University Latvian Academy of Sport Education (RSU LASE), which will be headed for the next five years by former Minister for Education and Science Anita Muižniece (pictured).

The change of Director follows an open call for applications launched on 14 February this year, which attracted eight strong and experienced candidates. After a thorough evaluation process, Muižniece was selected for the role to strengthen RSU LASE as a modern centre for education and research in the field of sports science.

‘Sport and education are two pillars of a strong society and the foundation for developing the leaders of tomorrow. The RSU Latvian Academy of Sport Education plays a unique role in advancing sport education and science. My goal is to strengthen its position not only in Latvia, but also internationally. This involves closer collaboration with industry leaders, the development of innovative study programmes, and focused efforts to enhance research capacity. Team spirit in both sport and education paves the way for shared success, creating space for growth, cooperation and leadership. Let’s build a strong team, generate new ideas and achieve ambitious goals together,’ says Muižniece, the new Director of RSU LASE.

Muižniece assumed her new position on 22 April, succeeding Associate Professor Kalvis Ciekurs, who will now serve as Deputy Director and continue contributing to the Academy’s further development in a professional capacity.

Muižniece served as Minister for Education and Science from summer 2021 until the end of 2022, during which time she established herself as a forward-looking reformer and advocate for values that promote societal development. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Latvia, which she obtained in 2019.

Congratulations to Anita Muižniece on her appointment as Director of RSU LSPA. We wish her every success in leading the Academy into its next phase of development.
