Call for contributions: international conference Entangled Motherhoods: Care, Politics and Intimacies

On 8–9 April 2027, an international interdisciplinary conference Entangled Motherhoods: Care, Politics and Intimacies will take place in Tallinn, organised by Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Kumu Art Museum and the Estonian Academy of Arts.

The conference explores experiences and representations of motherhood and their social, political, cultural and artistic dimensions, with a particular focus on Central and Eastern European contexts. Topics include ideals of “good motherhood”, the politics of care, affects and intimacies, new approaches to family, kinship and community, as well as artistic practices and aesthetic frameworks that challenge or reshape how we think about motherhood.

The conference will take place as a satellite event of the exhibition Who’s Afraid of Motherhood? at Kumu Art Museum.

We invite proposals for academic papers, round-table discussions, artist talks, world cafés and experimental walkshop formats.
