Between 4 - 5 September, Professor Sandra Kaija and Assistant Professor Inga Kudeikina from the Faculty of Law of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) participated in an international scientific conference held in Rome. The conference was dedicated to the environment and environmental protection in the context of sustainable development.

The conference was organised by the European Centre of Sustainable Development, and work was organised into three thematic sections:

  • economic sustainability;
  • environmental sustainability, and
  • the sustainability of social culture.

Conference programme

Countries from Europe, Asia and Africa were represented at the conference with presentations delivered by more than 200 delegates. Work during the plenary session was organised as sections and poster presentations.

Prof. Sandra Kaija and Assist. Prof. Inga Kudeikina participated with a poster presentation on the damage caused to the environment in the context of the sustainable development of society. The article was published in the scientific journal European Journal of Sustainable Development that is indexed by global citation database Web of Science.

The main conclusion that both RSU lecturers drew from the conference was that many countries face similar challenges regardless of their geographical location – some of these challenges include the need to improve legal frameworks, to educate society and work on environmental preservation.

Their experience at the conference will allow both lecturers to supplement the content of the master’s study courses Topical Issues in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure and Civil Law, Civil Process Law and Commercial Law.
