Last week, teams representing Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) delivered strong performances. Mogo/RSU secured first place in the Optibet Hockey League regular season, while in volleyball, Robežsardze/RSU opened the Latvian Volleyball Championship semi-final series with a convincing victory.
Ice hockey surprise: first place in the regular season
On 12 March, Mogo/RSU defeated HK Liepāja 4–2, securing first place in the regular season. The goals for the Riga team were scored by Kristers Ansons, Ernests Krūms, and Elviss Želubovskis, while one goal resulted from a defensive lapse by the opponents.
This victory secured the team a direct place in the play-off semi-finals, allowing them to skip the quarter-finals and continue their quest for the title in the next round of the play-offs.

The game was particularly special for Elviss Želubovskis (Mogo/RSU) – with his goal, he reached 595 points in his Latvian league career, becoming the all-time leading scorer and surpassing Aigars Razgalis.

Volleyball: victory in the first semi-final match
On 14 March, in the first match of the Latvian Volleyball Championship semi-finals, Robežsardze/RSU defeated the Līgatne volleyball club 3–0 (25–20, 25–17, 25–18) on their home court.
The series is best-of-three, so this victory in the first match means that Robežsardze/RSU are now just one win away from reaching the Latvian Championship final. The next match is scheduled for 22 March in Līgatne.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the RSU teams in the upcoming play-off matches!
