For Students
Scholarships

The Prof. Ilmārs Lazovskis' Medical Foundation Scholarships have been awarded by the Latvian Medical and Dental Association (LĀZA) for the 18th consecutive year. These scholarships aim to assist and encourage the top medical students in their journey towards becoming medical doctors. This year, the scholarships amounted to a total of USD 6,000 and several senior students from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) were among the recipients.

After reviewing all the documents that were submitted, the selection committee met 14 applicants on 20 May. The meeting was attended by members of the Board of LĀZA: the Founder and Head of the Foundation Ēriks Niedrītis (USA), Assoc. Prof. Daina Dreimane (USA), Historian and representative from Pauls Stradiņš Museum of the History of Medicine Mārtiņš Vesperis, Edīte Lazovska (Latvia), Member of the Board of the Junior Doctors Association Jānis Vētra (Latvia), and LĀZA Office Manager Kamena Kaidaka (Latvia).

Four RSU students received the Prof. IImārs Lazovskis’ Medical Foundation Scholarship worth 1,000 USD: Elīna Fainveice (4th year), Dāniels Makoveckis (4th year), Antons Miščenko (4th year), and Aija Tumova (6th year).

Four medical students from Latvian universities, two of them from RSU, were awarded incentive scholarships worth 500 USD: Evita Kokina (5th year) and Anna Ilva Miķelsone (6th year).

All 14 applicants were presented the issue 171 of the LĀZA circular, and an invitation to the award ceremony, which will take place on 30 June at the Latvian Medical Association between 10.00 and 12.00. All LĀZA scholarship holders, lecturers, friends, and supporters are welcome to attend!

The scholarships are provided by the Ojārs Veide Scholarship Fund, which until now has been headed by Prof. Kaspars Tūters, but from 2023 the Foundation will be headed by Assoc. Prof. Juris Lazovskis. The Board of the Fund includes LĀZA members Inese Flude (Canada) and Ingrīda Šķetris (Canada).
