Project ‘Between Risk and Hope’: Co-Creation Council brings together researchers and industry representatives
On 16 September this year, the first two meetings of the Co-Creation Council of the State Research Programme project ‘Between Risk and Hope: Demographic Change and (Return)Migration in Latvia Amid Russia’s War in Ukraine’ were held.
The project is implemented by Rīga Stradiņš University, the University of Latvia and Stockholm School of Economics. The aim of the project is to explore the demographic change, as well as migration and return migration processes in Latvia amid Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The Co-Creation Council meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, Riga and Rēzekne municipalities, the Society Integration Foundation, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, as well as non-governmental organisations and diaspora initiatives.
The aim of the Co-Creation Council is to foster dialogue between researchers and various stakeholders so that the project’s results complement existing initiatives, help avoid duplication of effort, and make a practical contribution to the development of policies on demography, migration and integration.
The project will also examine demographic decision-making in conditions of insecurity, the potential for return migration, media discourse on migration, and the integration of people of Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian origin.
The project is funded under the State Research Programme ‘Letonika: For the Development of a Latvian and European Society’ of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, Project No. VPP-IZM-Letonika-2025/1-0002.
