The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Pharmacy Studies and Research Centre has won 1st place in the New Public Building category at the Best Building of the Year in Latvia 2022 award ceremony which took place on 17 August 2023.

The competition is organised by the Latvian Construction Association. The aim of the event is to highlight the best buildings and examples of best practice in construction. A total of 35 of the most outstanding construction projects that were completed in the past year in eight categories were honoured at this year's awards ceremony.

‘We are delighted that the teams behind the objects have done truly outstanding work, been innovative, and shown a responsible attitude to the environment and society.

This year the jury observed a high quality of construction in all the objects evaluated in the finals,’ explained Normunds Grinbergs, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Construction Association and head of the jury.

More than 60 buildings from all over Latvia were submitted to the jury which was composed of 50 professionals. Experts visited 35 of the sites in person and evaluated the presentations. Architects, designers, builders, and commissioners presented their projects and talked about the construction process. The presenters justified why the building is a candidate for the award and answered questions from the jury and audience.

The awards were presented by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Māris Sprindžuks, the Minister of Climate and Energy Raimonds Čudars, as well as the jury and industry experts.

The newly-built RSU Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre at 21 Konsula iela (next to the RSU Main Building) was opened on 31 March 2023. The designer of the centre is SIA Nams, the main contractor of the construction works is A/S UPB, the contractor is SIA Kvadrum, and the construction supervision and auditing of the construction project was carried out by SIA Būvuzraugi LV. The Centre won second place in the New Public Building category of the 2022 annual Latvian Construction Awards.

The object was constructed with the support of the project Pharmacy research infrastructure development at Rīga Stradiņš University (Agreement No. 1.1.1.4/17/I/011 ), co-funded as part of the Specific Aid Objective (SAM) 1.1.1.4 "Development of the R&D infrastructure in fields of smart specialisation and strengthening of institutional capacity of scientific institutions" and the project Improvement of the study environment at Rīga Stradiņš University (Agreement No. 8.1.1.0/17/I/006), co-funded within SAM 8.1.1 "To increase the number of study programmes of modernised STEM, including medicine and creative industries”LV_ID_EU_logo_ansamblis_ERAF_RGB_1333_400_s_c1_c.jpg
