Recognition
Culture at RSU

We are pleased and proud to announce that Evita Taranda, conductor of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) mixed choir Rīga, received a Letter of Commendation from the Ministry of Culture on 27 May. The Letter of Commendation was presented by Minister of Culture Agnese Lāce during a formal ceremony held at the Latvian National History Museum at Riga Castle.

Taranda was honoured for her exceptional skill, perseverance, and significant contribution to the development of choral singing traditions, and was also congratulated on her milestone birthday.

Taranda is one of the most prominent choral conductors of her generation in Latvia. Her professional career is a testament to her exceptional mastery, dedication, and significant contribution to the development of choral singing traditions.

Since 2000, Taranda has served as conductor of the Rīga Stradiņš University mixed choir Rīga. Under her leadership, the choir has achieved a high artistic standard, gained international recognition, and established a strong and lasting presence in Latvia’s amateur music scene. Working alongside conductor Zane Zilberte, Taranda’s purposeful and demanding leadership, her approach to musical interpretation, and her ability to inspire young people have been decisive factors in the choir’s long-standing success.

The conductor has also received high international recognition.

Of particular note is the fact that, in 2010, Taranda, together with the RSU mixed choir Rīga, participated in the 16th International Sacred Music Competition Cantate Domino in Kaunas, Lithuania, where she received the competition’s Best Conductor Award. In 2012, at the 10th International Competition Venezia in Musica in Italy, she was awarded a special prize for the best interpretation of contemporary music, demonstrating her professional expertise and artistic sensitivity.

We warmly congratulate Evita Taranda on receiving the Ministry of Culture’s Letter of Commendation, as well as on her milestone birthday.
