The research programme at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) that developed recommendations on clinical, biochemical and immunogenetic paradigms of COVID-19 infection, was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) that recognised it as a significant study in 2021.

The programme that developed the recommendations is the National Research Programme “Clinical, biochemical, immunogenetic paradigms of COVID-19 infection and their correlation with socio-demographic, etiological, pathogenetic, diagnostic, therapeutically and prognostically important factors to be included in guidelines”.

The project's manager is Professor Ludmila Vīksna, Head of the RSU Department of Infectology and full member of LAS. The study was supported by The Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation.

The recommendations “SARS-CoV-2 infections and the epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical course, and complications of COVID-19” that were developed as part of the study are intended for physicians of all disciplines, senior medical students, as well as for health policy makers, care organisers, and a wide range of medical practitioners.

As a result of the research scientific publications, technologies, data sets, students’ career growth and public service information have also been created.
