Research Week 2019

RSU Research Week will be this year’s key scientific event at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) gathering more than 50 visiting professors from 20 countries. The conference programme will include 1,250 presentations – an 80% increase from last year. RSU Research Week is supported by important employers who are long-standing partners of RSU.

AS Olainfarm is among the main sponsors of the event. This enterprise is one of the leading manufacturers in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector in the Baltic States with over 45 years’ experience in the field. AS Olainfarm is an active and long-standing cooperation partner of RSU. Evidence of this is the Olainfarm Excellence Scholarship which has been granted to the most talented RSU students for eight successive years. RSU’s study programme Industrial Pharmacy is another example of this successful cooperation – students in this programme have the opportunity to undertake an internship at AS Olainfarm where they can learn about the development of dosage forms, their manufacturing and quality assurance as well as other skills.

‘As a company that actively cooperates with academic staff and students at RSU we see this conference as a great platform for prospective healthcare professionals to learn about new discoveries in research, get inspired, broaden their horizons and open up new opportunities,’ says AS Olainfarm board member Veranika Dubitskaja.

Siemens Healthcare, a global technology services company, supports RSU Research Week because it provides the opportunity to meet local and international professionals, researchers, students and industry representatives to discuss current issues, share knowledge and possibly also find inspiration for new and innovative ideas, according to Gundars Ziemanis, the representative of the company’s Latvian branch. He adds that medicine is developing rapidly meaning that professionals in this industry should stay up-to-date on industry trends and discoveries, and seek opportunities to exchange information.

Renowned IT company, MikroTik, is another significant supporter of RSU Research Week – the company has already provided funding for the RSU Institute of Oncology. B. Braun Medical and Genmedica should also be mentioned among the key supporters of this year’s conference.

‘A modern national economy should be closely bound to stimulating research. This can be accomplished solely in cooperation with enterprises representing various industries - their engagement, support and eagerness to cooperate are essential. An entrepreneur should be fully aware of research results which are necessary and useful today, and can forecast future demand. Cooperation between RSU and local and international business leaders with the intent of improving study programmes and foster research is essential,’ says RSU rector Professor Aigars Pētersons. He adds that the engagement of leading representatives of the industry in organising RSU Research Week is seen as progressive.

Rīga Stradiņš University will host Research Week 2019 from 1 to 5 April.

Three important conferences are planned during this week:

  • 1 – 3 April: RSU International Research Conference Knowledge for Use in Practice on Medical and Health Care Sciences,
  • 2 April: RSU Interdisciplinary Conference on Social Sciences PLACES,
  • 4 – 5 April: RSU International Student Conference.

Research Week provides a unique opportunity to get to know current trends in medicine, healthcare and social sciences, gain new professional contacts and friends, and, most importantly, to get to know about recent advances in science.
