RSU Student Union to celebrate its 25th anniversary

The student and resident self-government of the Medical Academy of Latvia, currently known by every student as the RSU Student Union, was founded back in 1993 by a decision made on 20 April in the RSU Senate meeting when Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) still bore the name Medical Academy of Latvia.

This April the RSU Student Union is celebrating 25 years of existence and its members invite all RSU students and staff members to joint anniversary celebrations with a number of interesting and historically-rooted events throughout the month of April.

To look back on the achievements of the Student Union over a quarter-century, we will display a historical timeline to mark the development path taken by the RSU Student Union in representing the academic, social and cultural rights of RSU students at the university and before other state institutions. On 20 April the RSU museum will launch an exhibition on the 25 year history of the Student Union that has been so full of events and accomplishments.  

On 9 April every RSU student will have the chance to take a closer look at the work of the Student Union board and step into the shoes of a board member, taking on the duties and completing the tasks of a board member. On 10 April the Student Union will convene an ad hoc working group about the Student Union and its future goals and on 11 April the Student Union will hold its regular meeting in the RSU Hippocrates Lecture Theatre.  

Certainly, no birthday party can be imagined without sweets and good wishes: to celebrate the birthday week, from 16 to 18 April we will treat students with a sweet surprise in the RSU lobby. For the coming year to be equally successful, the anniversary will be celebrated at the long-awaited spring ball – RSU Student Union invites all students to the ball, titled Since 1993…, make moves on the dance floor and to jointly celebrate a quarter-century of the RSU Student Union.

On presentation of their student card, every RSU student will be treated to a number of bonuses throughout the month of April:

• A special Riga coffee offer at Coffee Inn – 2 EUR;    
• 10 % discount on all eclairs at Raunas dārzs;     
• 10 % discount at the bar in all Ezītis miglā cafes.
