latvijas_29_universiade-afisa-lead.jpgThis year the Latvian Universities Sports Federation (LUSF), in cooperation with the Latvian Sports Federations Council, Ministry of Education and Science, sports federations and Latvia’s institutions of higher education are organising Latvia’s 29th Universiade (Student Games)..

Throughout the 2018/2019 academic year, students from Latvia’s universities will have an opportunity to compete and represent their university in more than 26 different disciplines. Student-athletes will compete for the victory individually, as well as represent their universities in competition with other universities for the title of the best university and trophy.

As part of Latvia’s 29th Universiade, LUSF in cooperation with sports federations and Latvia’s institutions of higher education will organise competitions in 15 disciplines: beach volleyball, rugby, floorball, swimming, bench press, table tennis, skiing, badminton, kettleball lifting, powerlifting, futsal, football 7:7, basketball, volleyball and track and field athletics.

Latvian students’ championships will be organised in 11 disciplines: chess, taekwondo, weightlifting, boxing, judo, kickboxing, freestyle wrestling, zole (a card game), orienteering, frisbee throwing and aesthetic gymnastics..

In the case of separate disciplines, Latvia’s Universiade competitions will serve as elimination competitions and training in preparation for various international student competitions: World Student Championships, European Student Championships, World Student Games, EUSA Games, SELL Student Games etc.

“Believe in yourself and together with your teammates use the opportunity to improve your skills and make new friends both in Latvia and within the international athlete community”, says LUSF president Agita Ābele.
