This year the traditional SELL student games were held in Tartu, Estonia. The annual three-day sporting event was held from 18 to 20 May, bringing together young athletes from 8 countries representing 49 universities, among them Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) with 69 participants.

Rīga Stradiņš University earned two gold medals in team sports, which is a historical achievement for our university. The RSU women's volleyball team won the golden match against the Helsinki University team, taking a 2-1 lead after three sets and our women's basketball team was victorious against the team from Tallinn University. RSU men's floorball team won the bronze medal match against the University of Žilina. 

In individual sports RSU was represented by five athletes, three of whom earned medals. Austris Karpinskis earned two bronze medals in the 200 m and 400 m run accordingly, the javelin thrower Laine Donāne took the bronze medal and Anete Jete Meiere remained unbeaten in the pole vault.

In the SELL games RSU was also represented by seven swimmers. Alise Vējone took the silver medal in breaststroke.

The history of SELL - Suomi (Finland), Eesti (Estonia), Latvia and Lithuania student games date back to the first joint student games that were held in 1932 in the city of Tarbatu (the historical name of Tartu). In the 2018 games, students competed in 12 sports: track and field, badminton, basketball, chess, floorball, judo, mini football, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and wrestling. These were the 34th SELL games.
