On 9 and 10 November, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will host the international conference Autoimmune Diseases: Main Problems and Solutions. The event will take place within the framework of the international project 'Reducing networking gaps between Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and internationally-leading counterparts in viral infection-induced autoimmunity research' (VirA).

The conference will be the final part of a three-year VirA project aimed at building the research capacity of autoimmune diseases and filling networking gaps.

For many years, the RSU Institute of Microbiology and Virology has been studying autoimmune diseases and how to treat them in collaboration with leading clinics and other international partners. The work carried out in a team with three excellent partner organisations from Italy, Germany, and Israel has raised RSU's reputation and visibility in the international scientific community, opening up more opportunities for collaboration.

The conference Autoimmune Diseases: Main Problems and Solutions will gather participants from the Baltic States, European research institutions, and the project’s partner organisations the University of Ferrara (Italy), Ulm University (Germany), and the Zabludowicz Centre for Autoimmune Diseases, at the Sheba Medical Centre (Israel).

By participating in and organising international conferences, workshops, networking and other events, the VirA project has contributed to the integration of RSU into the European Research Area. Drawing on the experience and best practices of RSU partners in Israel, Italy, and Germany, our university's research profile has expanded into multidisciplinary research: immunology, virology, morphology, as well as clinical data management and modelling.
