Requirements

RSU is currently looking for several talented and motivated PostDocs / Visiting Lead Researchers to join the Bioinformatics Lab team, to work in 2 EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) funded projects “Hypothalamic mechanisms of High-Calorie intervention in ALS” (HiCALS, No. 7-3-2. N-1873) (co-ordinator: Apl. Prof. Dr. F. Roselli, Dept. of Neurology, Ulm University, Germany) and “Multidimensional mechanistic investigations of trans spinal direct current stimulation in motor neuron disease” (DC4MND, No. 7-3-2.N-1876) (co-ordinator: Asst. Prof. M. Bączyk, Department of Neurobiology, Poznan University of Physical Education, Poland)

  • Work location: Riga, Latvia (remote option possible)
  • Working time: 15-40 hours per week
  • Employment contract: for 30 months


Candidate's profile

  • The successful candidate should have a PhD in bioinformatics, (bio)statistics, (computational) biology, computer science, mathematics or other equivalent degree;
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology and omics technologies, in particular, transcriptome (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq) and metabolome profiling;
  • Prior experience with multi-omics (in particular, transcriptome/RNA-seq and metabolome) data analyses and integration with clinical data (including medical images) is not mandatory but would be highly advantageous;
  • A good track record of study results and previously completed courses and/or publications, as outlined in the CV;
  • Computer programming skills (bash, R and Python/Perl/Julia or Java) are mandatory;
  • Previous experience with Linux OS, high-performance computing (HPC) and/or cloud platforms (AWS, DNAnexus);
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
  • A team player with strong analytical problem-solving skills and cross-disciplinary (out-of-the-box) thinking, however also able to work independently, take initiative, and possesses strong organizational skills

 

Job description

  • Bioinformatics analysis of multi-omics (in particular, transcriptome/RNA-seq and metabolome) data and integration with clinical data (including medical images);
  • Participation in the development and maintenance of the computational infrastructure;
  • Participation in the scientific discussions within the projects’ consortia and the RSU Bioinformatics Lab;
  • Preparation of research proposals and scientific publications.
