Rīga Stradiņš University invites you to apply for the position of Director of the Institute of Public Health – a strategic and significant role in shaping the University’s academic and research activities.
The Institute of Public Health is the leading RSU unit in the field of public health and health care. It ensures the implementation of study courses, performs scientific and methodological work, as well as makes a significant contribution to the development of public health policy and practice in Latvia and internationally.
We seek a professional, collaborative leader with experience in research and strategic management who is able to ensure the scientific excellence of the Institute, develop international cooperation, and promote the sustainable development of the public health sector.
Description of duties
- Plan, establish and manage the structure and day-to-day operation of the Institute of Public Health, ensuring effective organisation of administrative and academic processes
- Develop the research programme and academic activities of the Institute in accordance with RSU Development Strategy
- Attract research funding for the operation of the Institute, plan and monitor the Institute’s budget and use of resources
- Ensure the development of the Institute’s infrastructure and its accessibility to RSU departments and research teams
- Attract funding for scientific activities from various national and international funding programmes
- Coordinate and manage scientific research in public health and related fields, including sports science, within national and international research programmes
- Represent RSU and the Institute in national and international organisations and networks related to their activities
- Promote the professional development and continuity of the Institute’s staff, analyse and evaluate their performance to ensure high academic and research performance
Education and knowledge
- Doctoral degree in the field of public health, epidemiology, healthcare management, sports science or other activities of the Institute
- Internationally recognised research activities, Hirsch index at least 10
- Current expert status at the Latvian Council of Science
- With distinction in scientific activity and demonstrable results at the national (Latvian) or international level in the fields of public health, epidemiology, healthcare management, or sports science
- Knowledge of developing a productive and inclusive scientific, academic or clinical work culture within a managed unit
- Knowledge in one of the Institute’s activities and its related research methods and technologies
- Experience managing national and international research projects and attracting funding in the field of public health
- Understanding of the Institute’role in Latvia’s and international scientific networks
- Experience in the operation of international consortia
- Excellent knowledge of Latvian and English, at least B2 level (according to the Europass self-assessment framework)

- Ability to work with a wide range of academic and industry partners
- Ability to communicate an organization’s strategy easily and confidently
