At the beginning of December, training on the use of SHARE data in research took place
Training on the use of SHARE (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) data, organized by the Institute of Public Health of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), has concluded. The event brought together participants from RSU, the University of Latvia, and Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, representing the fields of public health, economics and social sciences, as well as healthcare.
During the training, the lecturers provided not only theoretical knowledge about the structure and use of SHARE data, but also practical tips based on their own experience using SHARE data in research.
Aija Bukova-Žideļūna, the SHARE country team leader of Latvia, introduced the audience to the aims of the study, its implementation in Europe and Latvia, as well as its significance and contribution to research. Dr. Fabio Franzese, a researcher at the SHARE Berlin Institute and representative of SHARE database management, presented the documentation related to SHARE data, which can notably facilitate data analysis – the prepared manual includes information on scales and multifactor variables. The presentation by Antanas Kairys, SHARE country team leader of Lithuania, focused on exploring the well-being of older adults by analysing psychological and mental health factors.
SHARE is a pan-European study that provides an in-depth insight into the processes of population ageing and their influencing factors, covering the fields of health, economics, demography, and social support. Within the framework of the study, individuals aged 50 and over are interviewed to collect information on health status, psychological well-being, employment, income, education, family status, children, family ties, social networks, and voluntary activities.
Access to SHARE data for scientific use is provided free of charge to researchers, in compliance with European Union and national data protection laws, as well as publicly available usage conditions.

The training was organized within the framework of the project Participation of RSU in the Horizon Europe Programme (No. 1.1.1.5/3/25/I/014), one of the objectives of which is to inform and educate researchers about the opportunities to use SHARE data in research.
