Doctoral Study Grants
The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Regulations on Doctoral Study Grants set out the procedure for awarding and using financial support for students enrolled in doctoral study programmes at RSU to ensure the successful development and defence of their doctoral theses.
Grants may be awarded for one calendar year to support the needs of doctoral research in accordance with the topic of the doctoral thesis, including:
- covering the costs of purchasing laboratory materials and reagents;
- covering the costs of purchasing medical equipment. The purchased items are recorded in the University’s accounts. If the purchased item is a fixed asset or piece of equipment, a responsible person who is a University employee is appointed, and the doctoral student is registered as the user of the material asset;
- carrying out tests, examinations (to be conducted primarily in University laboratories), and other services associated with drafting the doctoral thesis, as well as equipment rental;
- covering editorial corrections and publication fees for scientific publications in internationally cited journals indexed in the SCOPUS or Web of Science databases;
- purchasing educational literature (which remains the property of the University) and subscribing to periodicals (for which the University remains the user);
- paying conference participation fees (and other related costs) if the doctoral student gives an oral presentation at the event and holds a written or electronic confirmation issued by the event organisers. Destination countries for conferences are limited in accordance with the University’s business travel regulations.
A doctoral student may be awarded a grant not exceeding the annual grant fund amount, in the following amounts:
- up to EUR 2,000 (two thousand euros and zero cents) per year – for doctoral students studying in the full-time regular Social Sciences doctoral study programme and candidates for a scientific degree in this field;
