Kristaps Jurjāns will defend his doctoral dissertation on 30 April in an open meeting of the RSU Clinical Medicine doctoral committee. His dissertation is titled 'Functional Outcome and Mortality of Cardioembolic Stroke Patients Dependent on Antithrombotic Therapy.'

On 12 April, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) folk dance ensemble Ačkups organised a charity performance titled "Kas te rīb". The goal of the event was to raise donations for the Children’s Clinical University Hospital (BKUS) initiative Drosmes kaste (Box of Courage), which provides support to children in the hospital by offering them toys, games, or books as encouraging surprises after medical procedures or during difficult times.
As part of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Research Week 2025, a discussion was held on ‘The young athlete in Latvia: how sustainable is our system?’. Leading experts from the sports industry analysed the challenges facing Latvia’s sports system and discussed the necessary reforms to ensure stable and sustainable development opportunities for young athletes and their coaches.
On 10 April, the Ambassador of Canada, H. E. Brian Szwarc, visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) with his delegation to learn about the university’s development initiatives and to explore future collaboration opportunities between RSU and Canada — particularly in organising a course on military medicine, as well as in the fields of science and education.
At Latvia’s most prestigious healthcare event, the Annual Medical Awards 2024, cardiac surgeon and Head of the RSU Cardiac Surgery Residency Programme, Emeritus Professor Romans Lācis, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. At 79, he still works and operates.
On Thursday, April 10, the first Info Day of the BioPhoT platform took place. The aim of the event was to outline the essential aspects of the platform's operation and requirements, as well as to help scientists prepare for submitting research and innovation project (PIP) applications. As previously reported, BioPhoT platform projects must be submitted by the scientific institution by May 8, therefore interested RSU research groups are required to upload their application forms by April 30.
To provide a modern and high-quality environment for sports and physical activity, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has commenced the expansion of its sports complex, with the construction of a new building at 3 Cigoriņu iela in Torņakalns.
The new complex will span a total area of 3,627 m², featuring a sports hall, dedicated gymnastics areas, training zones, and gyms, as well as seating for up to 210 spectators. Designed to meet FIBA2 and CEV2 standards, the building is scheduled to open in the summer of 2026.

The winners of the TOP Employer survey – recognising the best and most desirable employers in Latvia – were honoured for the 14th time on 9 April, at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre. RSU was named the most desirable employer in the public sector for the third year in a row, earning the highest ranking among public sector organisations in the TOP 50 list.
