On Thursday 7 February at 14:00 Morten Ebbe Juul Nielsen from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) will hold a guest lecture titled Individual responsibility, legitimacy and public health policy  – is this combination possible?  in the Senate Hall at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).

The lecture will be organised by the RSU Institute of Public Health, the RSU Department of Public Health and Epidemiology and RSU Department of Communication Studies. 

Harsh Chauchan lectures at Riga Stradins University

Harsh Chauhan is from India and works for the Department of Business and Regional Economics in the Faculty of European Studies at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), teaching International Advertising. He has been in Latvia for 2 years now and is also completing his PhD studies in Latvia. The guest lecturer shares his thoughts on the students, the study process and life here in general.

At the end of the year, together with colleagues from RSU ISA and other students we discussed improvement opportunities for RSU study programmes, including “Medicine”. The following aspects are very essential to RSU: the mobility of our students, harmonisation and synchronisation of course content and volume with similar programmes at other European universities, a gradual increase of the proportion of placements, strengthening of the quality of the study process.

A good lecturer must possess both perfect knowledge of their study course and require modern 21st century pedagogical skills in order to ensure that while working together with a student and ensuring their understanding about the topic, the student is able to draw the necessary conclusions for themselves, for example, concerning the social determinants of health, claims Inese Stars, lecturer in the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology.

RSU resident Toms Arcimovičs (pictured) set the goal of becoming a physician a long time ago. He has always been fascinated by the nobility of this profession and the opportunity to help others. During his study years, while reading through scientific publications, he learned to appreciate how theoretical medicine improves the practical side of it. Now, being a third-year resident, he tries to keep both areas in balance.

Ilze Konrāde

Associate Professor at the Department of Internal Diseases, in the Faculty of Medicine, at Rīga Stradiņš University and Head of the Department of Endocrinology at Riga East Clinical University Hospital, endocrinologist Ilze Konrāde's daily life consists of treating patients in the hospital, working in the health centre, educating the physicians-in-training and supervising their research papers, as well as doing research of her own that is closely related to her clinical work in the hospital.
