From 13 to 14 October, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will host a dynamic multidisciplinary event – the Precision Medicine Networking Forum – where more than twenty experts from Scandinavia, Western Europe, and the Baltic States will share their experience on the latest opportunities in the treatment of paediatric and adult oncological diseases.

Mārtiņš Daugulis will defend his doctoral dissertation on 7 November at 14:00 in an open meeting of the Political Science Degree Committee. His dissertation is titled 'Development of Strategic Foreign Policy Messages of the People’s Republic of China and the Transformation of Collaborative Formats: The Case Study of the “17 + 1” Cooperation Format'.

Guna Semjonova will defend her doctoral dissertation on 4 November at 14:00 in an open online meeting of the Health & Sports Sciences Degree Committee on Zoom. Her dissertation is titled 'Application of DAid Smart Shirt Technology in Therapy for Patients with Subacromial Pain Syndrome'.

Phages Help When Antibiotics no Longer Work

After a crash and 11 surgeries, the cyclist was ready for a hip replacement that would give him hope of walking again. However, an infection appeared in his pelvis and right leg. Doctors failed to cure it even after several months of medications because the bacteria were resistant to them. Bacteria can have mutations in their genes that make them resistant to antibiotics, and that is exactly what happened in this case of this young cyclist.

Series of Events to Commemorate Those Who Have Donated Their Bodies to Science and Medicine

On 28 September, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) held a memorial event at the RSU Anatomical Theatre for people who have donated their bodies to science and medicine. A total of 14 urns with remains were laid to rest in a special ceremony that was attended by RSU management and staff as well as the media. Members of the general public also responded to the invitation to participate in the public events. Those who came out to honour these people later said that they been moved.
