Shortly after the First World Congress of Latvian Physicians, doctors Kristaps and Bertrams Zariņš (USA) founded the non-profit organisation Latvian Medical Foundation (LMF) to support the field of medicine in Latvia. Latvian doctors and students have been able to apply for LMF scholarships for 30 years already. This year, LMF is also supporting young Latvian doctors, and the Zariņi Scholarship for medical study trips has been awarded to aspiring young students from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).

After a more than a three-year-long hiatus, the traditional Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) Academic Ball was held at the Riga Latvian Society House on Saturday, 10 September marking the ball's 20th anniversary.
