Representatives from a number of international medical institutions that partner with Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) visited Riga on 7 – 8 November. During the meeting current issues related to the reorganisation of the Medicine study programme (Medicine 2.0) were discussed, including placement opportunities during the last study year.
In late October, Dr. med. Gunta Ancāne, a professor at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy and Head of the Psychosomatic Clinic, was invited to deliver a series of lectures to doctors at the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy in Berlin, Germany.
Over the next four years, the Institute of Public Health at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will be participating in the project “Towards elimination of cervical cancer: intelligent and personalised solutions for cancer screening” to modernise cervical cancer screenings. They will be collaborating in this project with the Institute of Family Medicine and Public Health of the University of Tartu (Estonia), the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and the Norwegian Cancer Registry.
After two and a half years, the project Age Is Not an Obstacle, funded by NordPlus Adult, has come to an end. The project was aimed at raising the standard of living for senior citizens in the Baltic States and encouraging them to lead a more active lifestyle after retirement.
Students from the Police Studies Department of the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration and Legal Affairs in Bavaria (Fachhochschule für öffentliche Verwaltung und Rechtspflege in Bayern) visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) on 29 October.
The elections for the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Student Union Council concluded on 9 November. After a two-week application period and one week of voting, the members of the new council were finally announced.
Sniedze Laivacuma will defend her doctoral dissertation on 2 December at 15:00 in an open meeting of the Medicine Degree Committee in the Hippocrates Auditorium (16 Dzirciema Iela). Laivacuma's dissertation is titled 'Improvement of echinococcosis diagnostics using ethiological, biochemical, immunological and immunogenetic markers and identification of infection risk factors in Latvia'.
Representatives from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) visited the Norwegian Police University College (Politihøgskolen) in Oslo to take part in Internationalisation Week, which was held from 21 to 25 October. The event was also attended by representatives of the German Police University (Deutsche Hochschule der Polizei) and prospective postgraduate students.
The President of Latvia, Egils Levits, will present the highest state honours at a solemn ceremony held in the Riga Castle on 18 November 2019. The Order of the Three Stars, the Order of Viesturs and the Cross of Recognition will be presented to more than 70 members of society, among them three renowned and long-standing professors of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).
