Aim

To promote innovation and skills in the EU healthcare sector by developing a new nursing education curriculum for Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) in the 2nd cycle higher education programmes.

Description

As the aging population grows in Europe, so does the risk of chronic diseases along with the decline in functional status and frailty. Nurses need comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) skills to help older people live more active lives. Successful CGA improves older persons’ quality of life, delays the progression of frailty, reduces hospital admissions and the length of hospital stays.

By developing a new, innovative education programme in the CGA sphere, the project BigPicture will advance professional qualification of nurses and strengthen existing knowledge, as well as improve their competencies in line with the skills required in the future. The project fosters innovation capacity in gerontological patient care through knowledge exchange and collaboration among vocational education and training providers, universities, and labour market participants.

The curriculum will be developed in the form of continuing and life learning education of certified nurses. During the project, it will be integrated into five EU higher education institutions as elective study courses.
