RSU Agency "Institute of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health"
The Agency provides services, expertise and training in the field of occupational safety and environmental health based on scientific research and practical solutions.
The aim of the Agency is to promote a safe and healthy occupational and surrounding environment by providing evidence-based expertise, education, information and practical solutions.
In 2007 (19 June 2007), following the recommendations by experts from the EU Transition Project No 2004/006-245-03-01 Occupational Health and Safety System (Further Development) regarding the improvement of the institutional labour protection system in Latvia, the RSU agency, the Institute of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health was established at Rīga Stradiņš University.
Functions
- to provide public services to state and municipal institutions, to RSU and its structural units, as well as natural persons in the field of occupational safety and environmental health
- to prepare and submit national and international, theoretical and practical projects and programmes and to participate in their implementation
- to plan, prepare and organise training and information events related to occupational safety and environmental health for state and municipal institutions.
Main objectives
- to provide training for occupational safety specialists and other industry experts in the field of occupational safety and environmental health;
- to ensure continuing professional advancement for physicians in the field of occupational safety and environmental health;
- to provide training and information to employers and employees in the field of occupational safety;
- to develop and provide information to state and municipal institutions, as well as other persons on matters related to occupational safety and environmental health, ensuring that the necessary information is available to both specialists and the general public;
- to carry out other activities to achieve its objectives.

Informational materials
As part of the plan for preventive occupational safety measures, the RSU agency, the Institute of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health, in collaboration with the State Social Insurance Agency, has developed information materials, including brochures, leaflets, posters, digital materials and others.
The materials are intended for senior occupational safety specialists and coordinators, company managers, employees, occupational health and occupational disease physicians and other interested parties.
