Knowledge of mathematics, physics at the level of the secondary school programme is required.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of the course the students will have acquired knowledge, which will allow them to:
• use the terminology of medical physics correctly;
• explain the role of physics and mathematics in medicine and the formation processes of diseases;
• describe the physical properties and ways of obtaining the parameters in medical diagnostics;
• name and evaluate kinds of influence of the electromagnetic spectrum ranges on people’s health;
• explain the structure, operational principles and safety of lasers;
• explain the structure, operational principles and future directions of development of medical diagnostic equipment;
• evaluate the influence of the surrounding world on the human body, and safety measures from unwanted influence;
• explain operational principles of X-radiation and computed tomography and their application in medicine.

Skills

Students will be able to apply the acquired physical and technical theoretical knowledge in the study of further profiling study courses.

Competence

Having mastered the course the students will be able to evaluate physical (both natural and technological) phenomena, their effect on the human body and their application in medical diagnostics.
