Objective

To gain knowledge and understanding of public health issues in the context of functional specialist practice.

Prerequisites

Functional classification and assesment, research metodology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

On successful course completion student will be able to:
• Explain the concept of health, functioning and disability;
• To characterize the factors affecting health and health habits of the Latvian population;
• To explain the disease incidence variables (incidence, prevalence);
• Name and describe the basic principles of health promotion and describe the levels of prevention.

Skills

On successful course completion student will be able to:
• Select, collect and use key information on public health and the health habits of Latvian inhabitants;
• Apply the disease incidence calculations and public health statistics;
• Create a presentation about public health and the health habits of Latvian inhabitants.

Competence

During the course the student will develop the skills to select and analyze information, collaborate, present and argue their views, to take responsibility and initiative, through the work of the group.
