About Study Course
Objective
To strengthen knowledge of social anthropology approaches, theories and methods and their potential use in the field of communication and media studies.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the history of ideas and qualitative social research methods.
Learning outcomes
Students can name and explain theoretical approaches and main discussed matters in social anthropology research about media, communication, gender and medicine, as well as find their way around the range of social anthropology research methods.
Students are ready:
• To evaluate qualitative social research methods, their advantages and gaps in clarification of specific issues being studied.
• To create a research design based on anthropological research methods.
• To critically analyse the statements, expressions and communication channels distributed in media about sex, gender roles, gender relations, diseases and health.
Students are able to use their knowledge and skills in the area of studying social problems, including for the purposes of research journalism to be able to identify problems related to the role of media in society and politics, communication, gender relations and role and stereotypes about disease and health.
