Riga Stradiņš University museum is a research and educational academic unit of RSU that deals with the university’s (previously – Riga Institute of Medicine, Medical Academy of Latvia) heritage documentation and saving it for future generations, as well as exhibition of its collections.

The mission of the museum is to inspire the existing and potential students and employees of Riga Stradiņš University; promote awareness of society of Riga Stradiņš University as one of the leading universities of Latvia by saving the heritage of this university from 1950 to nowadays and making it publicly available. The museum is one of the instruments of attracting students and a way of representing the university.

The day of founding of the museum may considered to be 4 September 2001 when, during a meeting of the Senate, its regulation was approved and the main principles of the museum and its tasks were formed.

The permanent museum exhibition

Permanent exposition can be found in the central building of RSU, Riga, Dzirciema Street 16, Building K, Room 102.

Exhibition hours on weekdays from 9.00–19.00.

You are welcome to see the exhibition of the museum and enjoy a guided tour in Latvian, Russian and English free of charge. Please contact us on 22003426 or muzejsatrsu[pnkts]lv if you wish to visit the museum on weekdays from 9.00 - 17.00 or on holidays.

Museum collection

The museum collection contains cultural values of different forms (audio and audio-visual recordings, electronic documents, photos, etc.) which relate to the activities of Riga Stradiņš University since 1950. There are five collections in RSU Museum.

The collection includes tangible and intangible cultural and historical objects which reflect the status of RSU/LAM/RMI and the change of its name. The historical period covered: from 1950 to the present day. The collection includes tangible, written, audio visual and IT objects.

Record No. 25 from the record kit of the 2nd edition of "Great Encyclopaedia of Medicine".
Made in Moscow, in the Апрелевский завод factory from 1955 to 1965. Record on both sides of the plate, heart tones (pericarditis). The plate belonged to prof. Ieva Ranka, physician, head of the Department of Paediatrics (1982-1998), and served as a teaching aid for the Faculty of Paediatrics.

The collection comprises tangible and intangible cultural and historical objects reflecting the organisation and the content of the study process, scientific and research work at the university, etc. Historical period: from 1950 to the present day. In some cases – historical background dating back to 1919, as RMI was created on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia. The collection includes tangible, written, audio visual and IT exhibits.

Important Personalities in the History of RSU

The collection includes tangible and intangible cultural and historical items which illustrate the life and professional activities of people important in the history of the university and the state. Historical period: from 1950 to the present day. In some cases – historical background from 1919, as RMI was created on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia, or earlier – depending on the person’s life. The collection includes tangible, written, audio visual and IT exhibits.

The collection comprises tangible and intangible cultural and historical items which bear evidence of the activities of RSU amateur societies and sports teams, various public and political organisations, and the traditions established and restored by the university at different times. Historical period: from 1950 to the present day. The collection includes tangible, written, audio visual and IT exhibits

The staff of RSU Museum offer an opportunity to use the materials of the museum for research, exhibitions and presentations, as well as consultations. The museum is located in Riga, 26a Anniņmuižas bulvāris. Working hours - weekdays from 9:00 - 17:00.
