Institute of Microbiology and Virology performs scientific activity in the fields of microbiology, virology and biotechnology.

The Institute of Microbiology and Virology (IMV) manages and implements theoretical and practical research projects at national, international and also university’s level and provides services to public and private contractors in fulfilling market-oriented orders, specialised expert examinations, etc.

MVI is the only Latvian member of the International Institute of Anticancer Research. The staff of the institute lists members of such international organisations as: American Society for Microbiology, International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, European Society for Virology, etc.
