Over the course of five days, students from the master's programmes Health Management and Digital Transformation in Healthcare will be working in teams to develop innovative HealthTech ideas while learning the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and innovation development in the healthcare sector.

The programme combines practical workshops, teamwork, mentor support, and experience-sharing sessions with entrepreneurs and representatives of the innovation ecosystem. Throughout the summer school, participants will gradually develop their ideas, analyse challenges, explore customer needs, and create sustainable solution concepts.

Programme Overview

The HealthTech Summer School is designed as an intensive bootcamp format, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on teamwork.

During the programme, participants will explore the innovation development process, from problem identification and customer discovery to business model development, idea validation, and pitching. They will also strengthen their skills in teamwork, presentation, and entrepreneurial planning.

Working in teams, students will create and develop their own HealthTech innovation ideas, which they will present to fellow participants and experts at the end of the programme.

The bootcamp format enables participants to acquire new knowledge in a short period of time, test ideas in practice, and build connections with like-minded peers, mentors, and industry professionals.

Next Step: Apply for Funding with Your Team

Following the completion of the HealthTech Summer School, applications will open for the Innovation Voucher for Student Teams, which supports the testing and development of innovation and business ideas. 

Student teams can receive funding of up to EUR 3506 to further develop their innovation or business concepts.

Funding may be used for activities such as:

  • Prototype development 
  • Purchase of materials 
  • Expert and specialist consultations 
  • Market research and validation 
  • Skills development and training 
  • Other expenses directly related to idea development

All required materials and services will be procured through RSU on behalf of the teams.

Who Can Apply for Funding?

Applications are open to teams of 2–5 participants with a shared innovation or business idea.

Each team must include:

  • At least one student, doctoral candidate, resident physician, or pupil of a vocational or general education institution; 
  • At least one participant affiliated with RSU, RSU Latvian Academy of Sport Education (RSU LASE), or RSU Red Cross Medical College (RSU RKMC), such as a student, researcher, employee, or other community representative. 

Application Process

  1. Develop an Idea and Form a Team
    Define the innovation or business idea you would like to develop and form a team of 2–5 people.
  2. Review the Eligibility Criteria
    Read the programme requirements on this website and ensure that both your team and idea meet the eligibility criteria.
  3. Prepare Your Application
    Complete the application form and submit the required supporting documents, including participant CVs and proof of student status. Application forms and detailed instructions will be available on this page from 19 June.
  4. Submit Your Application
    Submit your application by the specified deadline and await the evaluation results.

Idea Development and Final Presentations

After receiving funding, teams will spend four months developing their innovation and business ideas within the the Student Innovation Grants Programme.

Each team will be assigned a supervisor who will provide methodological guidance and support in planning the development process. Teams will also have access to industry experts and specialist consultations to help address specific challenges.

Teams that did not participate in the HealthTech Summer School but receive funding through the Student Innovation Grants Programme will be assessed individually and, if necessary, may be invited to attend additional training sessions during the autumn semester to develop essential innovation and entrepreneurship skills.

In November, the teams will present their results at RSU Innovation Day. During three-minute pitch presentations, participants will introduce their ideas, showcase their development progress and future potential, and compete for cash prizes.
