Graduate Medical Training

On 27 September, a graduation ceremony for medical residents from the Faculty of Continuing Education was held in the Great Hall of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). 133 residents graduated from RSU this year which is an increase of 10 students compared to the previous year. The young physicians studied in both government-funded and self-paid study positions and represent 47 specialities and sub-specialities. The most popular specialities among this year’s graduates are paediatrician, family physician, physical and rehabilitation medicine physician, and psychiatrist as well as anaesthesiology and reanimatology.

‘We are very satisfied with our well-trained young specialists we are, however, particularly pleased with the growth of the total number of residents, as well as with the number of young professionals who choose regional medical institutions as their training centres. Nearly 20% of the young physicians who graduated from RSU this autumn have concluded an agreement with regional hospitals and had been working there during their studies,’ said Professor Ilze Grope, Dean of the RSU Faculty of Continuing Education.

The young physicians were greeted by the president of the Latvian Medical Association Ilze Aizsilniece and the Dean of the Faculty of Continuing Education Prof. Ilze Grope. The Graduation Ceremony was also attended by RSU management, lecturers, staff members, students and guests.
