For Students

This autumn’s Meet the Ambassador event series organised by the International Department of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has come to an end. During these events international students had the opportunity to meet with and ask the ambassadors of their countries questions.

During the autumn semester, within the frame of this event series, the Ambassador of Germany to Latvia, Mr Rolf Schütte and Secretary for Culture, Media and Consular Affairs, Mr Thomas Schöps visited RSU. The following matters were discussed during the meeting: topical issues of the German diaspora in Latvia, the relations between Germany and Latvia, public processes in both countries and other matters.

A meeting with the Ambassador of Finland to Latvia, Ms Marja Riitta Korpivaara was also held for Finnish students. Ms Korpivaara started her ambassadorship in Latvia in September 2018, and therefore, she met students of her home country in Latvia for the first time. She was accompanied by the Consul of the Embassy, Ms Anne Haavisto.

“It is a great opportunity for RSU international students to meet the ambassador of their home country in informal settings and to discuss topical issues in their mother tongue. Students are very interested in cooperation between their home countries and Latvia, as well as life of their diaspora in Rīga. Students await the arrival of the ambassadors to RSU with great interest and prepare their questions beforehand. Likewise, ambassadors and other embassy representatives gladly meet the RSU students. It is a pleasure to learn from the ambassadors that students are satisfied with their studies at RSU,” says the Director of RSU International Department.

Currently, there are more than 2000 international students at RSU. German students constitute the largest international student group, whereas the students from Finland are the third largest group at the university.

The Meet the Ambassador series was started by the International Department at RSU in 2016. Both the Ambassador of Germany, Mr Schütte and former Ambassador of Finland, Mr Olli Kantanen have visited the university several times as part of this event series. The event series will continue in spring semester 2019.
