Latvian biomedical institutions, including RSU, sign a memorandum of understanding with Illumina

During the working visit of the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, to San Diego, USA, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Illumina, one of the world’s leading DNA sequencing technology companies, and several Latvian biomedical institutions, including Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).

On 25 September in San Diego, USA, during the working visit of the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Illumina and several Latvian biomedical institutions − the National Research and Innovation Institute, Riga East University Hospital, Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, Children’s Clinical University Hospital, Rīga Stradiņš University and the University of Latvia.

The memorandum reflects the parties’ commitment to advancing genomics in Latvia, strengthening personalised medicine solutions and supporting the use of the latest biomedical technologies in patient care to improve treatment outcomes.

RSU has long-standing experience in genomics research, particularly in the fields of rare diseases and oncology, as well as significant achievements in translating genomics discoveries into clinical practice. The partnership with Illumina is an important step towards accelerating scientific development, strengthening innovation ecosystems and further integrating precision medicine into healthcare for the benefit of patients and society.
