This year, six teams and nine individual participants from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will join the international pre-incubation programme Green Hexagon, marking the largest representation of RSU in the programme to date.

Over the course of four months, they will collaborate with students from partner universities across Europe to develop sustainable business ideas and create solutions that advance healthcare and well-being, environmental responsibility, sustainable consumption, community development, and digital innovation.

International collaboration at the early stages of idea development

Green Hexagon is the only pre-incubation programme at RSU implemented in close cooperation with other European universities, offering students an international environment at the earliest stages of idea development.

Sustainable innovation across health, technology and the circular economy

The concepts proposed by this year’s RSU participants span a broad range of fields while maintaining a clear focus on sustainability and societal impact. Among them are digital tools aimed at strengthening health literacy and supporting early diagnostics, technological solutions designed to improve patient safety and access to data, as well as platforms that enable companies to adopt more transparent and responsible practices. Additional ideas address topics related to the circular economy, biotechnology, and the use of renewable energy resources.

As part of the programme, the most successful participants will attend an innovation bootcamp in Vienna, where they will engage with peers and mentors from other partner countries, develop marketing and sales competencies, and take part in the start-up festival ViennaUP. At the conclusion of the programme, teams will present their ideas to an international jury, receive useful feedback, and compete for financial awards from a total prize fund of EUR 9,000.

Online programme fostering entrepreneurial skills and cross-border cooperation

Green Hexagon is implemented by RSU in cooperation with the University of Latvia, the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, the University of Tartu, the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt. The programme is delivered online over four months and is designed to foster skills development, cross-border collaboration, entrepreneurial knowledge, and the emergence of sustainable innovation. Under the guidance of experienced lecturers and mentors, participants explore market research and customer validation, business and financial modelling, product and service design and testing, marketing fundamentals, revenue models, financial planning, and pitching skills. Networking and mentoring events are also integral components of the programme.

Strengthening students’ entrepreneurial competences and international networks

Participation in Green Hexagon provides RSU students with the opportunity to test their ideas in an international setting, strengthen their entrepreneurial competencies, and build professional connections beyond Latvia. The growing number of participants highlights students’ increasing interest in sustainable innovation and reflects the university’s continued commitment to international entrepreneurship education initiatives.
