Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has started the new academic year with a great achievement by entering the prestigious university ranking Times Higher Education (THE) for the first time. RSU immediately rose to the top among Latvian higher education institutions and received the second-best result in the Baltic States. Continuing its success, RSU also entered the THE Clinical and Health Subject Ranking 2022 and placed 401-500th in the world.

The Clinical and Health Subject Ranking compiled by THE gives prospective students the opportunity to identify the world's leading universities that offer study programmes in the field of medicine and health sciences. RSU has achieved the highest result in the international outlook category, obtaining 80.2 points, which is the highest result not only in Latvia, but also among all universities in the Baltic States.

The ranking includes universities that conduct research and offer study programmes in the field of clinical and health sciences. In total, 925 universities in the field of medicine and health sciences from all over the world have entered the ranking this year. They were assessed on the basis of 13 criteria that are divided into five main areas:

  • teaching – learning environment (27.5%),
  • research (27.5%),
  • citations – research influence (35%),
  • as well as international outlook (7.5%),
  • and incomes from cooperation with industry (2.5%).

This is the first year when two globally recognised universities from Latvia, namely RSU and the University of Latvia, are represented in the THE Clinical and Health Subject Ranking. The University of Tartu in Estonia, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Vilnius University have also managed to enter the ranking.

It was previously reported in March of this year that RSU has entered the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 in the field of medicine and is the first and currently the only higher education institution from Latvia ever included in this ranking.
