On 16 February Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted a meeting of the Latvian cooperation partners of the OnBoard-Med project - Harmonization of on Board Medical Treatment, Occupational Safety and Emergency Skills in Baltic Sea Shipping. Representatives of the RSU Department of Nursing and Midwifery and project partners from the Latvian Maritime Academy discussed the project implementation process, current tasks and the planned study course pilot project – joint organisation, implementation and necessary cooperation. During the meeting the cooperation partners visited the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre and could learn about state-of-the-art technological solutions for the acquisition of different skills to ensure effective and high quality training on mannequins and in a simulated environment.

OnBoard-Med project is implemented from 1 September 2016 to 30 May 2019. The main objective of the project is to develop and harmonise training courses targeted at improving medical treatment, emergency and occupational safety skills for maritime stakeholders in the Baltic Sea region and to enhance cross-border cooperation between medical and maritime transportation institutions. The project is implemented by five cooperation partners: Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Åland University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Estonian Nautical School (Estonia), Riga Stradiņš University (Latvia) and Latvian Maritime Academy (Latvia).
