The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Centre for Educational Growth (CEG), in collaboration with the Career Guidance and Wellbeing Centre and the Student Union (SP, Studējošo pašpārvalde), has developed a digital learning aid to support students’ independent study — a flash assistant entitled Learning How to Learn.
The purpose of the material is to help students better adapt to the academic environment, plan their time, study independently, and feel satisfied with their progress. The flash assistant is equipped with proven techniques, recommendations, and tools that will help:
- adapt to the academic environment;
- collaborate effectively with fellow students, lecturers, and academic support staff;
- plan and use your time efficiently;
- engage in active, self-directed, and responsible learning;
- prepare effectively for examinations;
- receive and apply feedback for personal growth;
- provide constructive feedback to improve the study process;
- and experience genuine satisfaction from learning — and much more!
Introducing the flash assistant
The flash assistant was introduced for the first time at RSU Inspiration Park during the opening event of the academic year on 29 August, where it attracted considerable interest. Students noted that this type of supportive resource is especially valuable for first-year students, helping them quickly adapt to new goals, processes, and learning styles. It enables them not only to maintain their academic performance but also to take satisfaction in their personal growth and learning journey, while recognising the importance of self-care and restoring their energy.
Student feedback
During the event, students not only received practical information on how to use the flash assistant, but were also invited to fill out a quick survey about their expectations and needs as they begin their studies at the university.
The results showed that most students feel excited about the new academic year and would appreciate additional support to help them get off to a good start. Most students wanted to know:
- how to study effectively,
- how to prepare for exams,
- how to train and improve their memory.
All of this is included in the flash assistant through scientifically grounded and interactive videos, audio materials, infographics, self-assessment tasks, and practical tools.
The flash assistant as a superpower
Easily accessible, concise, and reliable, the flash assistant serves as a true superpower resource for students. It is not only a companion for independent learning but also a valuable tool for study programme directors, group leaders, student learning support mentors, and heads of study courses and departments, helping them guide students and support their adaptation to a new academic environment.
Engage and contribute
The more we, as the RSU community, engage with and explore the content of this material, the greater our collective contribution will be to strengthening pedagogical collaboration and enhancing the quality of the study process.
Let’s use it, share its added value, and provide the Centre for Educational Growth with constructive feedback!
