SCImago International Ratings Rank RSU as Best University in Latvia

More than 8,080 institutions from all over the world were included in the latest ratings, including six institutions from Latvia - five universities and one research institution.

Among the Latvian representatives, the University of Latvia (LU) comes in next at 658. It is followed by the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis in 673rd place, Riga Technical University (RTU) in 686th place, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies ranks 720th, and Daugavpils University comes in 727th place. Institutions that carry out research and have publications in indexed editions of the Scopus database are included in the SCImago International Ratings.

To rank the institutions, they are compared based on their achievements in research and innovation and the impact they have on society. Research results account for 50% of the evaluation and cover 11 different indicators, ranging from the number of publications, on excellence, and the authors’ impact and international cooperation. The other half of the evaluation consists of the innovation results (30%) and impact on society (20%). Data from patent databases are used to evaluate innovations, whereas to measure the impact that an institution's research activities have on society, indicators related to both research and social impact as well as visibility on social media and online are analysed.

This year, 13 academic and research institutions from Lithuania were included in the SCImago rankings, which is three more than previous year. From the Lithuanian institutions, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University ranks the highest coming in 573rd place. Whereas, among the six Estonian institutions, the University of Tartu ranks the highest in the Baltic States as 474th in the world.

The SCImago Institutions Rankings attest to the high-quality research results of RSU. RSU is recognised as an effective international academic and research organisation with high standards.
